At Vision For Life, Dr. Julie Steinhauer has made a positive impact on the lives of thousands of children and adults. As a developmental optometrist, she has seen first-hand what vision therapy can do for a child struggling in school or for an adult recovering from brain injuries or a neurological condition. Dr. Steinhauer is very passionate about her work and feels extremely fortunate that she can help patients succeed and thrive, in a career that she loves. The entire staff at Vision For Life never take witnessing the life-changing experience of vision therapy for granted.
Dr. Julie Steinhauer entered her last year of Optometry School in 2000. She attended the University of Missouri St. Louis and was slated to join a practice that focused on eye disease management. She knew in her heart that working with children was her true passion and began shadowing other vision therapists, watching and learning, hoping that one day she would be able to add vision therapy to her own practice.
Prior to opening Vision For Life in Edwardsville, Dr. Steinhauer owned Jersey Family Vision Care in Jerseyville, Illinois, operating the business for 9 years. Her desire to open a practice that solely focused on developmental vision care came to fruition in April of 2012 when she opened Vision For Life, serving patients in the Edwardsville and Glen Carbon, Illinois areas. Today, Dr. Steinhauer’s reach goes beyond the Metro-East, serving patients on a world-wide level.
As a developmental optometrist, Dr. Steinhauer is specialized in vision-related learning problems, sports vision and rehabilitative optometry. Board certified in vision development and also a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, she is a member of many professional organizations including the Illinois Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, College of Optometrists in Vision Development, Optometric Extension Program, the College of Syntonic Optometry, and the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association.
Active in the optometry community, Dr. Steinhauer runs a private Facebook group, Next Level Vision Therapy, for doctors and therapists from all over the world, sharing stories and best practices. She is also a published author, “Living the INNERGIZED Life – Transforming Ordinary Moments into Extra-Ordinary Memories”, a book by female authors that highlights ways of navigating life and living to your full potential.
In her spare time, Dr. Steinhauer is an avid reader and enjoys hiking, gardening, playing cards, traveling, baking, and spending time with her family. Always learning and looking for ways to better herself and share her knowledge with patients, Dr. Steinhauer continues to educate herself in developmental optometry education and research. Over the years, she has helped many with binocular vision issues, dyslexia, stress-related vision problems and more. Vision For Life offers a comprehensive developmental vision exam and visual skills evaluation for people of all ages. Depending on the vision problem, Dr. Steinhauer’s vision therapy program can teach patients how to use their eyes correctly, removing any vision roadblocks, helping to ensure an improved, overall quality of life.
